Frequently asked questions
What certifications should I look for in baby bedding?
Key certifications include OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which ensures no harmful chemicals, and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for organic fabrics. These certifications guarantee the bedding meets strict safety and environmental standards.
How many pieces should a baby bedding set include?
Most sets include a fitted sheet, a quilt or comforter, and sometimes a bumper or crib skirt. For safety, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a firm, flat mattress with only a fitted sheet; avoid loose bedding like quilts for infants. Consider sets with just a fitted sheet and a decorative blanket for older babies.
How do I choose the right fabric for my baby?
Cotton and muslin are breathable and soft, with organic options free from pesticides. Jersey knit is stretchy and fitted, great for movement. Avoid synthetic fabrics that can trap heat. For warm climates, muslin or bamboo blends offer cooling properties.
Can I use a baby bedding set for a toddler?
Many crib bedding sets can transition to toddler beds if the sheets fit a toddler mattress (usually thinner). However, quilts may be too small for a full bed. Check dimensions and consider investing in a set that offers convertible pieces.
How often should I wash baby bedding?
Wash the fitted sheet weekly or more if soiled. Use a gentle, fragrance-free detergent. Pre-wash new bedding to remove any manufacturing residues and soften the fabric.
