Frequently asked questions
Are mermaid crib bedding sets safe for newborns?
Yes, as long as you follow safe sleep guidelines. Use only a fitted sheet; avoid bumper pads, quilts, and pillows for infants under 12 months. Ensure the sheet fits snugly and is free of loose cords or embellishments.
What certifications should I look for in crib bedding?
Look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for organic cotton or OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for no harmful chemicals. These ensure the fabric is free from toxins. Also check for hypoallergenic claims if your baby has sensitive skin.
How often should I wash mermaid crib sheets?
Wash crib sheets weekly, or more often if soiled. Use a gentle, fragrance-free detergent. Avoid fabric softeners as they can reduce absorbency and irritate skin. Most sheets can be machine washed on cold and tumble dried low.
Can I use a mermaid crib quilt for my baby's sleep?
No, quilts are not recommended for sleep under 12 months due to suffocation risk. Use them only for decorative purposes or tummy time. Once your toddler transitions to a bed, quilts can be used safely.
What size do crib sheets need to be?
Standard crib sheets fit mattresses that are 28 inches by 52 inches. Ensure the sheet has deep pockets (at least 8 inches) to fit securely around the mattress. Check manufacturer dimensions to avoid ill-fitting sheets.
