What GOLS certifies
The Global Organic Latex Standard applies to latex made from natural rubber. To be certified, the finished latex must be produced largely from certified organic raw latex, and the standard also covers restrictions on harmful substances, emission testing, and environmental and social requirements in manufacturing. In short, GOLS is about both the organic origin of the latex and how responsibly it is processed.
What it does and does not tell you
- It does tell you the latex is genuinely organic and responsibly made, not just labeled “natural.”
- It applies to the latex, not the cover or any foam layers. Those need their own certifications such as GOTS for textiles or CertiPUR-US for polyurethane foam.
- “Natural latex” is not the same as GOLS. Natural latex can still be non-organic; GOLS is the organic proof.
